I could buy new lumber. It would be faster and a lot less work. But new wood looks new, and you can always tell — the fake-distressed signs in home stores have sanded-on scratches and printed-on “age.”
Mine doesn’t need any of that. Every board is reclaimed and broken down by hand in my shop. That wood already spent years outside before it ever reached me. The grey in the grain is real, and so are the knots, the nail holes and the splits.
